Waterskiers elsewhere on Lake Winnipesaukee
Two ladies perform the difficult trick of lifting one leg behind them while skiing on one ski. This photo is from a 1951 navigation map of Lake Winnipesaukee.
Five lady waterskiers are seen in a 1950s, “Greetings from New Hampshire”postcard. The caption on the back reads, “Waterskiing is a favorite summertime activity on New Hampshire’s many lakes. The appeal is so great that there are numerous clubs throughout the state. Shows are an annual event on Lake Winnipesaukee.”
Before waterskiing, which was not invented until 1922, there was “surfboarding” or “aquaplaning”. The concept of getting pulled by a rope behind a fast boat was the same.
The Weirs Ski Club hosted the National Water Ski Championships in August 21-23, 1959. Poster from the event.
